to my skilled colleagues, the contractors:

I’m talking about installation (& design & maintenance)

Contractors – you are in a position where the impact of your work isn’t necessarily clear to the design side or the maintenance side of the landscape industry, even if you do both design and maintenance as part of your business!   This is a wrong view; the work you do AND HOW YOU DO IT is a big part of the puzzle.

I will be challenging you to sometimes go just a little out of your usual way to make a really large impact.  Sometimes the suggestions will be really easy and sometimes you may think I’ve lost my mind.  The fact that you’re reading this tells me you are the kind of contractor who cares about the work and if there’s any way I can help elevate your company or your people, please let me know.   You have a direct and daily impact on the ground, and that’s something we all need to have done well for both the short term and the long term impacts.

I have set a goal of illuminating when the installation portion of a landscape is a contributing factor to either getting us closer to a healthy planet or farther away, but also how your company’s practices can help prevent accidental fires.

Additionally, I want to give you tools that help your business stand out to prospective clients when it comes to helping clients install a project in the most environmentally and fire-sensitive way.  There’s more to it than you might think, and even having said that, I’m sure I am missing all sorts of things I haven’t considered.

Design-build contractors should also take a peek at the hello note to designers and Landscape Architects, and those who continue with maintenance contracts may want to peek at my message to gardeners and maintenance professionals.    Please share this, I appreciate your taking the time!
