Hello! I’m asking you to do something difficult, to join me in the quest for:

a vision of the world as it should be.  One where we’ve already overcome climate change, one where individual actions add up to meaningful benefits for the environment, one where the planet is a livable temperature, wildlife is free to be wild and thrive, one where humans live in harmony with nature but are also safe in their homes, one where our response to fire is not to “pave paradise”.

I envision our industry getting smarter about stewarding the landscape, not just trying to be faster, cheaper, easier.  Mitigating fire risks must include mitigating climate change.  It is not “fast and easy”, but it also isn’t that danged hard.  The most challenging thing about it is persevering in the face of seemingly ridiculous odds.  We need to get educated about working with the natural world, supporting natural processes, and taking a step back from forcing our agenda on the natural world.  Mother nature does not negotiate, she will win in the end, why not be on her good side?

My goal is to arm you (whoever you are) with enough understanding that if you’re doing it yourself, you may be able to think through the decisions you are making.  If you’ve hired someone, my hope is that the things they tell you will either be wise and sensitive to these two goals or you’ll be able to recognize and speak from an informed position to those who don’t get it. Yet.

Your questions play a large role here.  I take the questions I get and collect them.  They are a treasure trove for me, and I hope that if you have something that’s confusing, that you are working to figure out, I hope you’ll let me know.

Thank you
